Daniil Medvedev will be taking on the home crowd at Wimbledon in the opening round as he looks to defeat young British player Arthur Fery.
Medvedev is, of course, no stranger to taking on crowds as his US Open 2019 run showed us all. He will be playing at Wimbledon for the first time since 2021 after the ban on Russian players was lifted for this tournament.
Whilst the 2021 US Open champion has previously named grass as his favourite surface to play on, his results do not back up his liking for the surface. It will be interesting to see what his tactics are in his 2023 Wimbledon run.
Arthur Fery is a home wildcard. His recent results have seen real potential in beating Steve Johnson at the Nottingham Challenger and taking a set off Alexei Popyrin at Queens, but also a very disappointing defeat to Alexander Vukic in his last match before Wimbledon at Eastbourne.
Medvedev will win this encounter, probably in straight sets. However, Fery needs to concentrate on delivering his best performance and taking all of the experience possible from this great opportunity.
The winner of this match, which will be contested over the best of five sets on Tuesday, will face either Adrian Mannarino or Alexander Shevchenko in the second round later in the week.
