Iga Swiatek looks to avoid coming unstuck against Czech teenager Linda Noskova in the Australian Open third round on Saturday.

The world number one has thus far managed to avoid the carnage of the earlier rounds that leaves her as the last remaining top-10 seed in the top half of the draw.

She had to dig deep to make sure of that, mind. Indeed, she was pegged back after winning her opening set against Danielle Collins and was two breaks down in the third, but recovered to eventually prevail.

That extended the Pole’s winning streak to 18 matches, though her opponent is also in a decent vein of form.

Having reached the semi-finals in Brisbane, Noskova has now won six of her seven matches in 2024 having marked her Australian Open debut with victories over Marie Bouzkova and McCartney Kessler.

Through to round three at a major for the first time, the 19-year-old will do everything in her power to extend her ground-breaking run.

The match gets under way from around 8am GMT (7pm local time) on Rod Laver Arena, with either Elina Svitolina or Viktorija Golubic awaiting the winner in the fourth round.

Swiatek is looking to extend history. Indeed, since 2000, the top seed has reached at least the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Meanwhile, Noskova is looking to follow in the footsteps of Linda Fruhvirtova from 12 months ago and become only the second Czech teen to reach round four in Melbourne.

Swiatek has only lost twice to teenagers in her career – Dayana Yastremska and Coco Gauff – so the world number 50 will be aware of the task at hand if she is to make it third time lucky.

After struggling past Collins, the top seed has a point to prove and will want to spend as little time on the court as possible here to build momentum heading into the second week.
