Carlos Alcaraz resumes his Wimbledon title defence when he locks horns with Aleksandar Vukic in the second round on Wednesday.

The Spaniard is seeking his third silverware of the season, following his triumphs at Indian Wells and the French Open.

His campaign began in fairly routine fashion, as he downed Estonia’s Mark Lajal 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-2 in round one.

By contrast, Vukic was taken to a fifth-set tie-break before eventually seeing off Sebastian Ofner of Austria.

Appearing in round two here for the second year running, the world number 69 now looks to reach the last 32 at a major for the first time.

A third-round showdown with 29th seed Frances Tiafoe awaits the winner of this contest.

The match gets under way at around 2.30pm BST on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of five sets on No.1 Court.

Vukic’s form during the grass-court season suggests he could pose problems for Alcaraz here.

The Australian beat Karen Khachanov to reach the quarter-finals in s’Hertogenbosch, while eventual champion Taylor Fritz to required two tie-breaks to deny him in the Eastbourne semi-finals.

Nevertheless, you would still expect the Spaniard to come through here, especially given he has reached at least the third round in each of his last 10 majors.
