Haddad Maia has enjoyed a timely upturn in fortunes in the Big Apple, where she had won just two of her five previous matches.

Having only recently returned to action after wrist surgery, Muchova has also looked like a woman on a mission this fortnight, reeling off eight sets without reply.

The Czech, who saw off Osaka in round two, also put French Open and Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini to the sword in the fourth round.

A showdown with either world number one Iga Swiatek or sixth seed Jessica Pegula awaits the winner of this clash in the semi-finals.

The match gets under way at around 5pm BST (12pm local time) on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of three sets in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
