Novak Djokovic resumes his latest bid for that 25th major title when he takes on Zachary Svajda in the US Open second round.

The Serb will be hoping this is the tournament he finally surpasses Serena Williams to become the most successful player in Grand Slam history outright.

The four-time US Open champion began his 19th campaign at Flushing Meadows with a straight-sets victory over Learner Tien.

Djokovic, who was beaten by Alexei Popyrin in the third round 12 months ago, now bids to continue his record of having never failed to progress beyond round two in the season’s final major.

Svajda also opened his campaign with a straight-sets win – his fourth in a row – after putting Hungary’s Zsombor Piros to the sword.

The world number 145 now looks to build on his momentum, having recently lifted Challenger Tours titles in Newport and Lexington.

The winner of this clash will play either Cameron Norrie or Francesco Comesana in the third round.

Play gets under way at 4.30pm BST on Wednesday with the match contested over the best of five sets at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Though Svajda will be buoyant, that victory over Piros was only his second in five appearances at the US Open, where he is aiming to reach round three for the first time.

By contrast, as previously mentioned, that achievement is just another day at the New York office for Djokovic.

The Serb has also reached the semi-finals of all three majors this season, and you would not expect him to slip up here.
