World number one Novak Djokovic and teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz collide in the Semi-Finals of the 2022 Madrid Open on Saturday.

A fascinating first competitive encounter between the pair provides a clash of the generations as the old guard meets the new guard for a place in the final of the ATP 1000 event.

Djokovic, who has missed much of the season so far for medical reasons, is looking to play himself into Grand Slam form by claiming his fourth Madrid Open title.

Djokovic was beaten in the final of the Serbia Open on home soil by Andrey Rublev a fortnight ago and has cantered into the latter stages here in Madrid.

The 20-time major winner is yet to drop a set this week, having seen off Gael Monfils and Hubert Hurkacz either side of a walkover against Andy Murray in Round Three.

Djokovic finds himself in the Semi-Finals of this tournament for a seventh time, marking his 72nd appearance in the Last Four of a Masters 1000 tournament. Only Rafael Nadal (with 76) has reached this stage on more occasions

Alcaraz, who celebrated his 19th birthday with a three sets win over Cameron Norrie, has already made history this week by becoming the youngest semi-finalist in Madrid Open history and the first teenager to defeat Nadal on clay.

The latter feat came in Friday’s Quarter-Finals as Alcaraz pulled off a memorable three sets triumph over his legendary compatriot for his first head-to-head success.

The number seven seed defied a mid-match ankle injury scare and will be hoping to avoid a possible reoccurrence when he faces another all-time great.

Home hero Alcaraz is bidding to become only the third Spanish winner of this event over the last 20 years as he aims to continue his meteoric rise.

Either defending champion Alexander Zverev or fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will await the winner in Sunday’s final.

Djokovic v Alcaraz is available to watch via a live stream on desktop, mobile or tablet devices from approximately 3pm BST.
