Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev collide in a mouth-watering Quarter-Finals at the 2024 Australian Open on Wednesday.

The box office duo go head-to-head for the last available Semi-Final spot as they bid to remain in the running for a maiden crown in Melbourne.

Alcaraz is already breaking new ground in the opening slam of the year, having surpassed the Third Round stage at the third time of asking, and the Spaniard is now vying to reach his fifth major Semi-Final.

The reigning Wimbledon champion has dropped just one set en route to the Last Eight, dispatching Richard Gasquet, Lorenzo Sonego, Shang Juncheng and Miomir Kecmanović.

Alcaraz won 65 of his 77 matches last season, picking up titles in Argentina, Barcelona, Madrid, Queen’s Club, and Indian Wells to add to his Wimbledon triumph.

Zverev, meanwhile, is into his third Quarter-Final at the Australian Open since 2020 but has had a contrastingly more eventful run to get there.

The number six seed came from a set down to defeat Dominik Koepfer in four, before recovering from 2-1 down to deny Slovak qualifier Lukáš Klein in a fifth set tie break.

He then brushed aside Alex Michelsen in straight sets before holding firm in another fifth set tie break to end the hopes of Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie.

The match gets under way from around 10.30am GMT (9.30pm local time) in the Rod Laver Arena, with third seed Daniil Medvedev awaiting the winner in the Semi-Finals.

Carlos Alcaraz v Alexander Zverev prediction

Alcaraz has been prolific in reaching the Quarter-Finals and his trademark movement and groundstrokes could prove too hot to handle for Zverev this time around.

He is yet to be tested over the past week in Melbourne but is likely to be served up a stern examination by Zverev – who has the upper-hand when it comes to the overall head-to-heads.

The key for Alcaraz will be his ability to counteract the Zverev serve, with the 20-year-old having gone just 6/11 on break points in his two sets against an injured Shang, 3/6 against Sonego and just 4/16 against Gasquet.

Zverev must make his clinical service game count if he is to have any chance of halting the rampant youngster, but he is well-fancied to secure at least a set here.
