Alex de Minaur hopes to continue delighting his home crowd when he faces Andrey Rublev in the Australian Open fourth round on Sunday.

The 10th seed is the last Australian standing across both draws heading into the second week of action in Melbourne.

De Minaur looked set to be in for a tough opener against Milos Raonic until the former Wimbledon runner-up was forced to retire through injury.

However, he has not looked back, dropping just 13 games across his straight-set victories over the Italian duo of Matteo Arnaldi and Flavio Cobolli.

Rublev also faced a hard-fought first-round clash with Thiago Seyboth Wild, who upset Daniil Medvedev at last year’s French Open, eventually denying the Brazilian in a fifth-set tie-break.

The fifth seed has also kicked on, though, reeling off six successive sets in beating Christopher Eubanks and Sebastian Korda. One more win would secure a third Australian Open quarter-final appearance in four years.

The match gets under way from around 8am GMT (7pm local time) on Rod Laver Arena, with either Jannik Sinner or Karen Khachanov awaiting the winner in the quarter-finals.

Alex de Minaur v Andrey Rublev prediction

This is a tough one to call. Two of the 10 best players in the world, and two players full of confidence after impressive starts to the season.

De Minaur, who is appearing in round four for the third year running as he seeks his first quarter-final, has already defeated Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz – doing so at the United Cup earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Rublev is on a seven-match winning streak after landing the season’s first silverware in Hong Kong, and will reach his 10th major quarter-final should he extend that here.

While it is difficult to predict the winner, we can expect the contest to go the distance with a place in the last eight at stake.
