Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz go head-to-head in a mouth-watering Quarter-Final clash at the 2024 Australian Open on Tuesday.

Like a fine wine, Djokovic appears to be getting better with age, and the 36-year-old is through to his 58th grand slam Quarter-Final – equalling Roger Federer’s record.

With 14 Quarter-Final appearances here in Australia, Djokovic has also joined Rafael Nadal and John Newcombe as joint second highest at this tournament and his winning streak now stands at 32 Australian Open matches and counting.

He is attempting to break Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 major singles titles, and to equal her all-time record of 11 Australian Open titles.

Fritz has already broken new ground by reaching the Last Eight here for the first time, and the American star is targeting a first career win over his nemesis Djokovic at the ninth time of asking.

The number 12 seed, Indian Wells champion in 2022, survived a scare in the opening round as he edged out Facundo Díaz Acosta in a deciding set and has gone on to defeat Hugo Gaston, Fábián Marozsán and last year’s runner-up – Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The match gets under way from 3am GMT (2pm local time) in the Rod Laver Arena, with either Jannik Sinner or Andrey Rublev awaiting the winner in the Semi-Finals.

Djokovic thrashed Adrian Mannarino for the combined loss of just three games in the Last 16 but had not had things all his own way in the previous rounds.

The defending champion needed four sets to see off both Dino Prižmić and Alexei Popyrin and is likely to face a stern test from a player ten years his junior.

Fritz may have lost all of his previous meetings with Djokovic, but he did run him close in this event in 2021, forcing a fifth set, and he appears good value to get at least one set on the board again this time around.

Fritz’s closest effort came here in Melbourne two years ago when he fought back from two sets down to force a decider before eventually succumbing 6-2 in the Round of 32.
