Novak Djokovic continues his quest for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title against Alexei Popyrin in the Australian Open second round.

Already the most successful male in major history, Djokovic will surpass Margaret Court (also 24) and stand alone overall should he go all the way in Melbourne this fortnight.

Despite nursing a wrist injury, the 10-time Australian Open champion began his campaign with a four-sets victory over Croatian youngster Dino Prizmic in the opening round.

Although, he faces a tricky test in home favourite Popyrin, who stunned eighth seed Taylor Fritz in his event 12 months ago.

The world number 43 is hoping to build on a decent 2023 season, in which he landed his second ATP title in Umag, while also reaching the Cincinnati Masters quarter-finals.

And he has already ended a run of three straight defeats in slams, having overcome compatriot Marc Polman in straight sets in the opening round.

The match gets under way from around 10am GMT (9pm local time) on Rod Laver Arena, with either Gael Monfils or Tomas Etcheverry awaiting the winner in the third round.

A heavy favourite and with plenty at stake in Melbourne, it is hard to see any outcome other than a Djokovic victory here.

The Serb has not lost at this stage at a major since the 2017 Australian Open, when he was beaten by Denis Istomin in five sets

Popyrin will not roll over. His scalp of Fritz last year was no fluke. Indeed, he has also beaten the likes of Dominic Thiem, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and David Goffin at his home slam.

Given his previous exploits and buoyed on by his home crowd, the world number 43 could make things interesting. But ultimately, you would still expect Djokovic to prevail without that many difficulties.
