Taylor Fritz and Stefanos Tsitsipas collide in the Australian Open fourth round for the second time in three years on Sunday.
The pair played out an epic at this stage in Melbourne two years ago, with Tsitsipas twice coming from behind and eventually prevailing 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
One of the in-form players at the season’s opening major, the Greek has reached at least the semi-finals in four of his last five appearances.
Runner-up to Novak Djokovic 12 months ago, he has recovered from a steady start to this year’s event. After losing the opening set in his first two matches against Zizou Bergs and Jordan Thompson, Tsitsipas dropped just seven games in a straight-sets win over Luca Van Assche last time out.
Fritz has also had to dig deep to match his best performance at this tournament, and now seeks a third major quarter-final appearance.
Although the American dropped just four games against Hugo Gaston, that was sandwiched by two hard-fought victories. Indeed, he twice came from behind to beat Facundo Diaz Acosta in his opener, before recovering from losing the first set to see off Fabian Marozsan in round three.
The match gets under way from around 2.30am GMT (1.30pm local time) on John Cain Arena, with either Novak Djokovic or Adrian Mannarino awaiting the winner in the quarter-finals.
Taylor Fritz v Stefanos Tsitsipas prediction
With a potential quarter-final showdown with Djokovic awaiting the winner, both players will be eager to make a statement of intent here.
They will both also want to progress with as much energy still in the tank as possible ahead of facing the world number one, should he overcome Adrian Mannarino.
This showdown pits the 12th seed against the seventh seed. Given the slow starts they have made in their matches so far and the fact their last meeting here went the distance, we could expect a similarly close battle this time around.
It really could go either way, but Tsitsipas’ knowhow when it comes to the latter stages in Melbourne may just tip the contest in his favour.

Taylor Fritz v Stefanos Tsitsipas head-to-head
This will be the fifth meeting between the players, with Tsitsipas leading the head-to-head 3-1. Although, Fritz stopped the rot at last year’s Monte Carlo Masters, denying the Greek his third straight triumph in the event.
