Fourth seed Jannik Sinner faces fifth seed Andrey Rublev in the Quarter-Finals of the 2024 Australian Open on Tuesday.

Both players are bidding to break new ground by reaching their first Semi-Final in Melbourne as they go head-to-head in this event for the first time.

Sinner, semi-finalist at Wimbledon last year, has blitzed through to the Last Eight here for the second time and is the only remaining player in the men’s draw to have done so without dropping a set.

The Italian star has won 25 of his last 28 matches since last year’s US Open and has emerged as a key contender to capture a maiden grand slam title this season.

In contrast, Rublev has had to work hard to earn his spot in the Last Eight, battling through fifth set gruellers in Round One and the Last 16.

Rublev is through a tenth grand slam Quarter-Final, having dispatched home hero Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0 last time out, and will be determined to finally break his jinx at this stage of a major.

The match gets under way from around 9.30am GMT (8.30pm local time) in the Rod Laver Arena, with either Novak Djokovic or Taylor Fritz awaiting the winner in the Semi-Finals.

Rublev has incredibly never made it beyond this stage of a grand slam in seven years of trying and runs into a player at the very peak of his form.

Sinner has swept aside all before him so far in Melbourne but faces arguably his first formidable test as he looks to make it three wins in a row over Rublev.

This will be their first full meeting over the best of five sets, and we expect Rublev to serve up a tough challenge, but ultimately Sinner’s strength in all departments could prove too strong and lead him to a 3-1 or 3-2 victory.

Jannik Sinner v Andrey Rublev head-to-head

The pair have met six times in previous ATP competition since 2020, with Sinner prevailing on four of those occasions, most recently in the Semi-Finals in Vienna last year.

Their only previous grand slam encounter came in the Fourth Round at Roland Garros in 2022, when Sinner retired during the third set with the pair having exchanged the first two sets.
