Carlos Alcaraz resumes his French Open title quest against world number 176 Jesper de Jong in round two at Roland Garros.

Meanwhile, this is only his opponent’s second appearance in a major main draw, with De Jong also appearing at the Australian Open in January.

The Dutchman marked his Roland Garros bow with a hard-earned victory over British number two Jack Draper, who had rallied from two sets down to force a decider, though he will hope the fatigue of the four-hour thriller will not effect him here.

Alcaraz has now won 12 of his opening 15 matches at Roland Garros – a tally only bettered by compatriots Rafael Nadal (15) and Juan Carlos Ferrero (13) since 2000.

Last year’s semi-finalist is an impressive 21-1 at majors against players ranked outside the top 50, his only such defeat coming against Mikael Ymer at the 2021 Australian Open.

The Spaniard has also reached at least the third round in each of his last nine majors, so everything is pointing towards another relatively straightforward victory here.
