Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas renew their Roland Garros rivalry with another blockbuster French Open quarter-final on Tuesday.

The pair also met at this stage on Court Philippe-Chatrier 12 months ago, with Alcaraz enjoying a commanding straight-sets victory.

The Spaniard is appearing in his third successive French Open quarter-final and, at 21, he is the youngest player to do so since Novak Djokovic (2006 to 2008).

Having dropped just a single set in his four matches so far, Alcaraz now targets his fifth major semi-final appearance.

He is also on track to become the first male player to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces prior to turning 22.

Meanwhile, Tsitsipas is eyeing his first major semi-final appearance since he was runner-up to Djokovic in last year’s Australian Open.

The 2021 runner-up, who is the only former finalist remaining in the bottom half of the draw, will be confident of achieving that.

After all, he has now won 17 matches on clay in 2024 – his highest tally from his opening 20 matches on surface in a calendar year.

The match gets under way at 7.15pm BST (8.15pm local time) on Monday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Tsitsipas is a healthy 6-1 in major quarter-finals – that sole defeat coming against Alcaraz here 12 months ago.

Meanwhile, he has won both matches against top-five opponents this season after going 0-6 in 2023 – beating Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner on the way to Monte-Carlo glory.

However, all of that means nothing against Alcaraz, who has prevailed in all five previous ATP meetings between the players.

And the way he has swept the seeded Sebastian Korda and Felix Auger-Aliassime aside in straight sets in his two most recent matches suggests the Spaniard is only going from strength to strength.
