Casper Ruud resumes his quest to make it third time lucky at the French Open when he faces Taylor Fritz in the last 16 on Monday.
The Norwegian has reached back-to-back finals at Roland Garros, before coming unstuck against Rafael Nadal (2022) and Novak Djokovic (2023).
Ruud, who has beaten Felipe Meligeni Alves, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Tomas Etcheverry so far this fortnight, is now looking to go the extra step and finally land that elusive major title.
The seventh seed is certainly in the form to do so. A winner in Barcelona and Geneva, he leads the ATP Tour for match wins (38) and final appearances (five) this season.
And a good omen is the fact he has gone on to reach the final on all three previous occasions when surpassing the last-16 stage at a slam.
Fritz is also targeting a fourth major quarter-final appearance, which would see him become the 14th active player to achieve the feat at all four slams.
The American has already set a personal-best tally of 13 wins on clay this season, and another here would make him the first man from his nation to reach the last eight at Roland Garros since Andre Agassi in 2003.
The match gets under way at 6pm BST (7pm local time) on Monday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

Since the start of 2020, Ruud is the only player on the ATP Tour to notch up over 100 match wins on clay.
The Norwegian has also won all eight of his previous contests with American opponents on surface.
By contrast, Fritz is 1-12 against top-10 players in grand slam events, while it is 24 years since an American man achieved the feat here – Jan-Michael Gambill overcoming eighth seed Nicolas Kiefer in the 2000 first round.
The 12th seed has already been put through his paces to get this far – seeing off Federico Coria and Dusan Lajovic, and he needed a decider to battle past Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Consequently, will he still have plenty in reverse to last the distance with clay-court specialist Ruud?
