Iga Swiatek and Naomi Osaka go head to head in a blockbuster second-round showdown at the French Open on Wednesday.

Court Philippe-Chatrier should be treated to a mouth-watering battle of the four-time grand slam champions.

Top seed Swiatek is seeking a fourth French Open title in five years – and third on the spin.

Fresh from going back-to-back in Madrid and Rome, the Pole took just 61 minute to wrap a comprehensive 6-1, 6-2 rout of French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean in the opening round – giving her a 13th successive win on clay.

Osaka, who missed last year’s tournament on maternity leave, marked her French Open return with a hard-fought three-set victory over Lucia Bronzetti.

Though still building match sharpness and momentum, the Japanese did beat Marta Kostyuk and Daria Kasatkina on the way to reaching the Italian Open last 16, and has now won five clay-court matches in a season for the first time since 2019, when she was top of the WTA rankings.

Swiatek has now won 15 successive matches at the French Open, becoming the fifth player to do so and first since Justine Henin’s run of 24 straight victories between 2005 and 2010.

The Pole is in highly esteemed company, with Chris Evert, Monica Seles and Steffi Graf the other players to achieve the feat.

Meanwhile, the top seed has also won 29 of her opening 31 matches at Roland Garros, a tally only bettered by Evert and Seles (both 30).

Although Osaka will provide a tough test of her credentials, you would still expect Swiatek to prevail.
