Carlos Alcaraz looks to avoid another shock defeat against Florian Marozsan when they collide in the Indian Wells Masters last 16 on Tuesday.
It is just under 12 months since one of the surprise results of the season occurred in Rome – and what was Marozsan’s maiden Masters main-draw appearance.
Then ranked 135th on the ATP Tour, the Hungarian ran out a surprise 6-3, 7-6(4) victor in the last-32 encounter – becoming one of only a handful of players to defeat the Spaniard during the campaign.
Although, it will be difficult to repeat that feat at Indian Wells, where Alcaraz is the reigning champion and has now won his last eight matches.
The world number two dropped his opening set against Matteo Arnaldi, but has reeled off four without reply in defeating the Italian and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
World number 58 Marozsan has also only lost just a single set in beating Jurij Rodionov, 24th seed Nicolas Jarry and Thiago Seyboth Wild.
A showdown with either Alexander Zverev or Alex de Minaur awaits the winner of this clash in the quarter-finals.
The match gets under way at 6pm GMT (1pm local time) on Stadium 1.

An Australian Open quarter-finalist and semi-finalist in Buenos Aires, Alcaraz is hoping to land his first silverware of 2024.
The Spaniard will definitely sense a genuine opportunity following Novak Djokovic’s shock defeat to world number 123 Luca Nardi.
It will not be easy. Although this is only his third Masters event, Marozsan is already seeking a second such quarter-final, having defeated the likes of De Minaur and Casper Ruud to reach the last eight in Shanghai last season.
Nevertheless, while Alcaraz is likely to be tested, you would still expect him to prevail.
