Gael Monfils and Diego Schwartzman go head to head in an eye-catching first-round clash at the US Open on Monday.
One of the more notable opening-round ties at Flushing Meadows is a battle of the former grand slam semi-finalists on Grandstand Court.
Monfils’ last-four run came here eight years ago, with the Frenchman also reaching a further three quarter-finals in the Big Apple.
And he arrives for his 16th campaign in decent form this term, having returned to the world’s top 50 following runs to the semi-finals in Doha and Mallorca.
Meanwhile, Schwartzman is gearing up for his 11th and final appearance at Flushing Meadows, with the Argentine set to retire early next year.
A two-time quarter-finalist here, he beat Andrea Pellegrino, Thiago Agustin Tirante and Vilius Gaubas to book his place in the main draw.
A second-round showdown with either 2022 runner-up Casper Ruud or Bu Yunchaokete awaits the winner of this clash.
The match gets under way at around 8.30pm BST (3.30pm local time) on Monday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Grandstand.

Aside from his two semi-final runs, Monfils is also fresh from claiming the scalp of reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz.
The 37-year-old became the second-oldest man this century to defeat a top-three opponent after Roger Federer.
By contrast, Schwartzman’s persistent injury troubles have limited him to just seven ATP main-draw matches this year, all of which resulted in defeats.
It all points towards a relatively comfortable victory for Monfils.

This will be the sixth meeting between the players on the ATP Tour. Schwartzman leads the head-to-head 3-2, winning the most recent clash in Vienna three years ago. Although, Monfils prevailed in their only previous major encounter at the 2015 French Open.
