Katie Boulter resumes her US Open campaign when she faces Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the second round on Thursday.

The British number one faces a tricky test at Flushing Meadows as she goes head to head with a proven giant-killer for a place in round three.

Seeded in New York for the first time, Boulter had to dig deep in the opening round, coming from a set down before eventually battling past Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

A WTA winner in San Diego and Nottingham this season, she now looks for a victory that would match her performance at last year’s US Open.

Maneiro enjoyed a much smoother first test on her main-draw debut in the Big Apple, seeing off Petra Martic 6-3, 6-0.

The 21-year-old now aims to achieve another impressive result, having dethroned reigning champion Marketa Vondrousova at Wimbledon last month.

An American opponent – either sixth seed Jessica Pegula or former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin – awaits the winner of this clash in the third round.

The match gets under way at around 6pm BST (1pm local time) on Thursday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Court 5.

Like Boulter, Maneiro has also claimed multiple silverware this season – albeit at a WTA 125 in Antalya, and two ITF triumphs in Porto and Morelia.

Nevertheless, the Spaniard has already demonstrated her big-match credentials with that victory over Vondrousova at Wimbledon, while it took eventual champion Barbora Krejcikova to stop her in the third round.

And given the fact Boulter’s form has tailed off somewhat since her Nottingham triumph, winning five of her last nine matches, Bouzas Maneiro may just have the edge here.
