Stefanos Tsitsipas looks to improve on his recent form when he plays Thanasi Kokkinakis in the US Open first round on Tuesday.
The Greek boasts grand slam pedigree having reached two finals at the 2021 French Open and 2023 Australian Open, losing out to Novak Djokovic on both occasions.
However, he boasts generally modest form at Flushing Meadows, where he is yet to progress beyond round three in his six previous appearances.
Not only that, but the 11th seed arrives in the Big Apple having won just one of his last four matches.
Although, his first-round opponent does not boast the fondest memories of the season’s final slam either.

The match gets under way at around 4pm BST (11am local time) on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Grandstand.

Aside from a run to the quarter-finals in Los Cabos, Kokkinakis’ best moment of the season saw him triumph at the Challenger Tour event in Sarasota.
The world number 86 has also battled injuries in recent weeks, withdrawing from three of the last four he has played.
That is likely to play into the hands of Tsitsipas, whose highlights of the campaign came on clay as he won in Monte-Carlo and was runner-up in Barcelona.
And with his experience and previous hard-court exploits to fall back on, you would expect him to come through his opener.
