Taylor Fritz goes head to head with Frances Tiafoe in an All-American semi-final showdown at the US Open on Friday.

There is plenty on the line for the two home favourites at Flushing Meadows, with both players aiming to become the first American men’s singles major finalist since Andy Roddick at Wimbledon in 2009.

Fritz is gearing up for his first semi-final appearance at a slam, and he has certainly earned the right to make it this far.

Indeed, the American number one has defeated three major finalists in Matteo Berrettini, Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev on the way to the last four.

Meanwhile, 2022 semi-finalist Tiafoe has become the first active American man – and first since Roddick – to reach the last four at multiple majors.

Like Fritz, the 20th seed has also progressed this far via some impressive results, with the likes of Ben Shelton, Alexei Popyrin and Grigor Dimitrov all seen off.

A championship showdown with either world number one Jannik Sinner or 25th seed Jack Draper awaits the winner of this clash.

The match gets under way at around 12am BST (7pm local time) on Friday and will be contested over the best of five sets in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The home fans will be happy, regardless of the final outcome in this encounter. Although, it is a really tough one to call.

The rankings and head-to-head record would make this season’s Delray Beach and Eastbourne champion Fritz the favourite.

But the form book arguably swings more in favour of Houston and Cincinnati runner-up Tiafoe, who is appearing in his second semi-final in three events.

He is also 6-1 against top-20 opponents during the Summer Hard-Court Swing since losing to world number three Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon.

That recent experience of beating the bigger names on a frequent basis may just tip this contest in his favour.
