Taylor Fritz goes head to head with Matteo Berrettini in a mouth-watering second-round clash at the US Open on Wednesday.

Undoubtedly one of the most eye-catching ties of round two, America’s number one takes on the former Wimbledon finalist at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Both enjoyed commanding straight-set victories in round one; Fritz defeating Camilo Ugo Carabelli and Berrettini seeing off Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Fritz had never been past round three at the US Open until his run to last year’s quarter-finals, and he will be looking to delight his home crowd with another deep run this time around.

However, he faces a tricky second-round test in big-serving Berrettini, who reached the 2019 semi-finals and a further two quarter-finals. Victory for the Italian would be his 50th at a major.

Ugo Humbert or Francisco Comesana awaits the winner of this clash in the US Open third round.

The match gets under way at around 2am BST (9pm local time) on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of five sets in Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The ATP rankings and head-to-head record would favour Fritz, but this one really could go down to the wire and either way.
