Aryna Sabalenka makes her return to Wimbledon as the 2025 championships get under way at the All England Club on Monday.

The grass-court major commences at SW19, where 128 players in both draws are aiming to come out on top in the third slam of the season.

Sabalenka was absent with a shoulder injury 12 months ago, but the top seed is back and looking to land her first major title of the year – starting her quest against Canada’s Carson Branstine.

A winner in Miami and Madrid this season, the two-time Wimbledon semi-finalist was also runner-up at the Australian and French Open, and will fancy her chances of going deep again at SW19.

Sabalenka faces competition from the likes of 2024 runner-up Jasmine Paolini, whose quest to go the extra step starts against Anastasija Sevastova, while Australian Open champion Madison Keys takes on Elena-Gabriela Ruse.

Qinwen Zheng is aiming to avoid a third successive first-round exit at the All England Club when she plays three-time doubles champion Katerina Siniakova, while 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova faces McCartney Kessler, and Naomi Osaka and two-time semi-finalist Elina Svitolina go up against Talia Gibson and Anna Bondar respectively.

There are also plenty of home favourites in action on day one. Two of them go head to head in 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu and 17-year-old debutant Mingge Xu, with Katie Boulter taking on ninth seed Paula Badosa.

Sonay Kartal, who reached round three on debut 12 months ago, also faces a tough task in former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, as Harriet Dart plays Dalma Galfi.

Over in the men’s draw, two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz launches his quest to complete a hat-trick of titles against Italian veteran Fabio Fognini.

The Spaniard is fresh from claiming his second title at Queen’s Club – and his fifth silverware of an already impressive campaign.

Daniil Medvedev, who has reached back-to-back semi-finals in the last two years, begins his quest for another deep run against Benjamin Bonzi, as two-time quarter-finalist Taylor Fritz takes on Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Third seed Alexander Zverev, who has never been past round four, plays Arthur Rinderknech, while Holger Rune and 2021 finalist Matteo Berrettini face Nicolas Jarry and Kamil Majchrzak respectively.

Home favourite Cameron Norrie – a 2022 semi-finalist goes up against Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut, with Jacob Fearnley also facing a tough proposition in rising Brazilian star Joao Fonseca.

Play gets under way at 11am on Monday. All men’s matches will be contested over the best of five sets, while women’s are the best of three at the All England Club.
