Aryna Sabalenka resumes her Wimbledon charge against Marie Bouzkova in the second round at the All England Club on Wednesday.

Having missed out with a shoulder injury 12 months ago, the world number one marked her return to SW19 with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over grand slam debutant Carson Branstine.

A semi-finalist in her last two Wimbledon appearances, Sabalenka is also aiming to go one better on the major front after finishing as runner-up at both the Australian and French Open this season.

Although, she faces a tricky test here against world number 48 Bouzkova.

The Czech reached the quarter-finals of the grass-court major back in 2022, beating the likes of Danielle Collins and Caroline Garcia along the way.

Bouzkova began her quest to match that run with a straight-sets victory over Lulu Sun, who reached the last eight here 12 months ago.

Whoever prevails will set up a meeting with either 2021 US Open winner Emma Raducanu or 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the third round.

The match gets under way at 1.30pm BST on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Centre Court.

You must go back to the 2020 US Open for the last time Sabalenka failed to progress beyond round two at a grand slam.

Not only that, she has reached at least the quarter-finals in each of her last 10 majors.

That makes her a heavy favourite to overcome Bouzkova, for whom runs to the last eight in Brisbane and Bogota represent her best performances of the campaign.
