Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev go head to head in the Wimbledon semi-finals for the second year running on Friday.
The pair also locked horns at this stage on Centre Court 12 months ago, with the Spaniard prevailing in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 on his way to lifting the trophy.
Although, Medvedev did exact his revenge in the US Open semi-finals later that year, dethroning Alcaraz in the process.
The latter is fresh from his French Open triumph and now on a 12-match winning streak at Wimbledon, having beaten the likes of Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul along the way.
At 21 years and 65 days old, he became the second-youngest man in the Open Era to reach the semi-finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in successive years – just 32 days older than a certain Rafael Nadal.
Meanwhile, Medvedev is gearing up for his ninth major semi-final appearance – the most by any player born since 1990.
The former US Open champion notched up a morale-boosting five-set win over new world number one Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals.
A showdown with either Novak Djokovic or Lorenzo Musetti awaits the winner of this clash in Sunday’s final.
The match gets under way at around 1.30pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Centre Court.
Carlos Alcaraz v Daniil Medvedev prediction
Alcaraz’s run to the last four has not necessarily been a straightforward one.
He twice came from behind to beat Tiafoe, and also recovered from losing the opening set against Paul.
Although, it is further highlighting the character and determination of the Spaniard, who bounced back from two sets to one down against Alexander Zverev in the recent French Open final.
It will stand him in good stead against Medvedev, who has notoriously surrendered two-set leads in major finals – most recently doing so against Sinner at this year’s Australian Open.
So while Alcaraz may be a little slow out of the blocks again, he certainly knows how to finish strong.
