Carlos Alcaraz launches his quest to complete a hat-trick of Wimbledon men’s singles titles against Fabio Fognini in round one on Monday.

The Spaniard has been the last man standing in each of the last two years at SW19, having beaten seven-time champion Novak Djokovic on both occasions.

Alcaraz arrives at the All England Club in fine fettle as he looks to make it three in a row at the grass-court major.

The world number two is fresh from claiming his second triumph at Queen’s Club, while taking his silverware tally for the season to five.

His first obstacle will be Italian veteran Fognini, who is gearing up for his 15th campaign at Wimbledon.

The 38-year-old has never previously progressed beyond the third round, but did beat eighth seed Casper Ruud on his way to reaching that stage 12 months ago.

A showdown with either Oliver Tarvet or Leandro Riedi awaits the winner of this clash in the second round.

The match gets under way at around 1.30pm BST on Monday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Centre Court.

It is hard to see any alternative outcome than a straightforward victory for Alcaraz.

After all, the Spaniard has won 27 of his last 28 matches, landing a second successive French Open crown along the way.

By contrast, Fognini is 0-5 on the ATP Tour this year, while you must go back to last September in Shanghai for his most recent such victory.
