Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic go head to head in the Wimbledon final for the second year running on Sunday.
Once again, the All England Club will be treated to a blockbuster showpiece on Centre Court, where they played out a five-set thriller 12 months ago.
Alcaraz prevailed that day and another victory here would almost certainly signal a changing of the guard.
But as Djokovic eyes a record-equalling eighth men’s singles title at SW19 and record-breaking 25th grand slam, the Serbian could potentially end the discussion when it comes to who is the greatest player of all time.
Alcaraz becomes only the fourth player to appear in multiple Wimbledon finals before turning 22, after Boris Becker, Bjorn Borg and compatriot Rafael Nadal.
The Spaniard is now 17-2 at SW19, where he made his debut in 2021, and targets a fourth major crown.
Meanwhile, Djokovic is 39-1 at Wimbledon since 2018 – that sole defeat coming against Alcaraz 12 months ago – and the 37-year-old could become the oldest champion here.
This will be the Serb’s record-extending 37th grand slam final, while taking his tally of championship match appearances at the grass-court major into double figures.
The men’s singles final – the seventh repeat in the Open Era – gets under way at 2pm BST on Sunday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Centre Court.
Carlos Alcaraz v Novak Djokovic prediction
Of the two players, Djokovic has probably enjoyed the better route to the final.
Indeed, he received a walkover in the quarter-finals following Alex de Minaur’s withdrawal, before putting Lorenzo Musetti to the sword in straight sets.
By contrast, Alcaraz was forced to come from behind in three of his matches – against Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul and Daniil Medvedev.
Though while the 21-year-old has undoubtedly exerted more energy this fortnight, he does have 16 years of youth on his side.
The Spaniard has a perfect record in major finals – winning all three – and he could maintain that by prevailing in another classic here.
