Coco Gauff launches her quest to claim back-to-back major titles against Dayana Yastremska in the first round at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

The world number two is fresh from an impressive clay-court season, in which she triumphed at the French Open and reached finals in Madrid and Rome.

Gauff now looks to address her form at Wimbledon, where she famously burst onto the scene as a 15-year-old with victory over Venus Williams in 2019.

Indeed, she is yet to progress beyond round four in her five previous attempts.

Although, Gauff faces a potential banana skin against a player to have reached round four and round three in her three Wimbledon appearances.

Yastremska is also a former major semi-finalist – reaching that stage at last year’s Australian Open – while she was runner-up at the Linz and Nottingham Open this term.

A showdown with either two-time major winner Victoria Azarenka or Anastasia Zakharova awaits the winner of this clash in round two.

The match gets under way at around 6pm BST on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Centre Court.

Despite her impressive exploits on clay, Gauff’s momentum was halted by a surprise first-round defeat by Xinyu Wang in Berlin last time out.

That will encourage Yastremska, who has beaten the likes of three-time major finalist Ons Jabeur and Maria Sakkari this season.

Nevertheless, having fallen at the first hurdle just twice in her 23 previous major main-draw appearances, you would fancy Gauff to avoid a premature exit here.
