Grigor Dimitrov and Gael Monfils lock horns in a battle of the former Grand Slam semi-finalists at Wimbledon on Friday.

Boasting a combined five last-four appearances at majors – and 27 campaigns at SW19 – this promises to be an intriguing third-round showdown on No.1 Court.

Although, beyond this stage is relatively uncharted territory for both players. Monfils has only been to round four once before, and Dimitrov just three times.

One of those occasions saw the Bulgarian reach the semi-finals in 2014, and he is fresh from an impressive comeback victory from two sets down against Shang Juncheng in round two.

Meanwhile, Monfils completed a straight-sets victory over fellow veteran and three-time major winner Stan Wawrinka on Thursday.

A showdown with either fifth seed Daniil Medvedev or Jan-Lennard Struff awaits the winner of this contest in the fourth round.

The match gets under way at around 3pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of five sets on No.1 Court.

Both players arrived at Wimbledon in relatively decent form this season.

Monfils was a semi-finalist in Mallorca last time out – matching his run to the same stage in Doha – while he defeated Hubert Hurkacz and Cameron Norrie to reach the Indian Wells Open last 16.

Dimitrov, meanwhile, claimed silverware in Brisbane at the start of the year, and was a runner-up in Marseille and Miami – beating the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev in the latter, before losing out to Jannik Sinner.

Also a quarter-finalist at the French Open, that recent experience of such notable results may well give him the edge in this one.
