Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz renew their rivalry in what promises to be a blockbuster 2025 men’s singles final at Wimbledon on Sunday.
For the second major on the bounce, the world’s top two players will contest the championship match, with neutrals hoping for similar levels of drama to their epic French Open battle five weeks ago.
Sinner suffered heartbreak at Roland-Garros, where he saw a two-set lead and three championship points go begging, with Alcaraz rallying and eventually prevailing in a fifth-set tie-break.
The Spaniard is now looking to complete a hat-trick of Wimbledon titles, and become the fifth man in the Open Era to achieve the feat after Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz has dropped five sets on the way to his sixth major final – including two in his first-round battle with retiring Fabio Fognini – while he has also beaten Oliver Tarvet, Jan-Lennard Struff, Andrey Rublev, Cameron Norrie and Taylor Fritz along the way.
Meanwhile, Sinner appeared to be heading out at two sets down to Grigor Dimitrov in round four, only for the Bulgarian to suffer the most untimely of pectoral injuries, which subsequently prompted his withdrawal.
Otherwise, it has been plain sailing for the world number one, who has dropped just 56 games en route to his first Wimbledon final.
Luca Nardi, Aleksandar Vukic, Pedro Martinez and Ben Shelton were all swept aside in straight sets, as was seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
The youngest player in the Open Era to reach four straight major finals, Sinner now looks to become Italy’s first men’s champion at SW19.
Play gets under way at 4pm BST on Sunday with the match contested over the best of five sets on Centre Court.
Jannik Sinner v Carlos Alcaraz prediction
For the seventh grand slam in succession, one of these two players will be the last man standing.
Following his five straight-sets victories, Sinner will arguably be fresher, due to having less court time than his opponent.
However, the Italian will be very aware of his task at hand, especially given the winning streaks Alcaraz is currently on.
The Spaniard has won his last 24 matches on the ATP Tour, his last 20 matches at Wimbledon, and his last five meetings with Sinner.
Not only that, Alcaraz boasts a perfect record in his five major finals thus far, with only Roger Federer enjoying a longer such streak (seven from seven)
Just like in Paris, this showdown has all the potential to go right down to the wire, though Alcaraz may just have the edge.
