Jannik Sinner launches his quest for a maiden Wimbledon title when he faces Yannick Hanfmann in round one on Monday.

The world number one looks to land his second major crown of the season at the All England Club, having already triumphed at the Australian Open in January.

Sinner has captured further silverware in Rotterdam, Miami and Halle, and is the first Italian top seed in the men’s singles tournament at SW19.

The first obstacle he must overcome is a player whose greater exploits of 2024 have come in doubles.

Alongside compatriot Dominik Koepfer, world number 98 Hanfmann reached the semi-finals in Melbourne, and this will be his third main-draw singles appearance in the grass-court major.

A second-round showdown with 2021 runner-up Matteo Berrettini awaits the winner of this match.

The match gets under way at around 5pm BST on Monday and will be contested over the best of five sets on No.1 Court.

Not only is Sinner full of momentum from climbing to the summit of the ATP rankings, he is also fresh from landing his maiden career title on grass in Halle.

A semi-finalist here 12 months ago, the Italian has reached at least the quarter-finals in all eight events he has entered this season.

Playing an opponent yet to progress beyond the second round at a major – and still seeking his first win here – you would expect Sinner to breeze through this contest without too many difficulties.
