Novak Djokovic resumes his quest for that record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title when he plays Alexei Popyrin in round three on Saturday.

The 24-time major winner is aiming to reach the second week at SW19 once more when he faces his Australian opponent on Centre Court.

Despite his participation at Wimbledon initially being a doubt following knee surgery after his French Open withdrawal, Djokovic has been in solid form thus far.

The Serb dropped just five games against Czechia’s Vit Kopriva, before battling past a stubborn Jacob Fearnley in the second round.

Popyrin has also had to work hard to reach round three, playing nine sets in his opening two contests.

The Australian had only won one of his five previous matches at Wimbledon prior to this year, but overcame Thiago Monteiro in his opener before twice coming from behind to edge out Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

The winner of this contest will play either Holger Rune or Quentin Halys in the fourth round.

The match gets under way at around 6.30pm BST on Saturday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Centre Court.

Djokovic is still seeking his first silverware of the season, but he certainly boasts the better form of the two players.

Popyrin arrived at Wimbledon having lost seven of his eight previous matches on the ATP Tour, while he is eyeing a first appearance in a major fourth round.

The world number 47 must overcome the seven-time champion in order to achieve that feat here.

But given the fact Djokovic has not lost in round three at SW19 since 2016, when Sam Querrey beat him, you would fancy the Serb to prevail here without too many difficulties.
