Novak Djokovic locks horns with Lorenzo Musetti in the second men’s singles semi-final at Wimbledon on Friday.

History has been made without a ball being struck on Centre Court. Indeed, this is the largest age gap between men contesting a last-four clash at SW19 – at 14 years and 285 days.

On a personal note, Djokovic is appearing in a record-extending 49th major semi-final, and a record-equalling 13th at Wimbledon – matching Roger Federer.

The Serb is also the third player aged 37+ to reach the last four at the All England Club after Federer (2019) and Ken Rosewall (1974).

By contrast, this is uncharted territory for Musetti, who is appearing in his first major semi-final.

He is the third Italian to get this far in the last four years – after Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner – and continues his impressive grass-court season, in which he boasts a 12-2 record.

A showdown with Carlos Alcaraz awaits the winner of this clash in Sunday’s final.

The match gets under way at around 5pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Centre Court.

Everything points towards a Djokovic victory.

He is eyeing a 10th Wimbledon final, and he has not lost a semi-final here since 2012.

Not only that, but the Serb will be extra fresh given he received a walkover in the quarter-finals following Alex De Minaur’s withdrawal through injury.

The 24-time major champion has also won 95 per cent of his service games at this year’s tournament, while playing eight fewer sets than his opponent.

Indeed, Musetti has already come through two five-setters to become the first Italian to reach three or more ATP semi-finals on grass in a calendar year.

With less experience of this stage and arguably less in the tank, you would expect Djokovic to fully capitalise on that.
