Jan Choinski
Jan Choinski is the late bloomer of British tennis. Born in Koblenz in 1996 to a Polish father and an English mother, both professional ballet dancers, he switched from Germany to represent Great Britain in 2019 and spent most of his career on the Challenger circuit. At 30 he finally broke into the ATP top 100 during Wimbledon week 2026, and he is now ranked World No. 88 with a career high of World No. 75 behind him.
That breakthrough came with a run of results rather than one week. He reached his first ATP Tour quarter-final at Eastbourne as the first British qualifier ever to get that far there, beat Vit Kopriva at Wimbledon to reach the second round before losing to 17th seed Frances Tiafoe, then won back-to-back Challenger titles in Zagreb and Braunschweig. He has direct entry into the US Open main draw.

At 6ft 5in Choinski turns his height into a genuine serving advantage, and the numbers bear it out: 0.31 aces per game across his career and a 77.4% hold rate.
