Maria Sakkari
Maria Sakkari is the most successful Greek woman in tennis history and a former world No. 3. Born in Athens on 25 July 1995, she reached that career high in March 2022 on the back of the best season of her career, when she made the semi-finals of both the French Open and the US Open in 2021.
The years since have been a slower rebuild. She has two WTA titles to her name, at the Morocco Open in 2019 and the Guadalajara Open in 2023, and has worked with coach Tom Hill since 2025. She sits at No. 33 on 1,355 points.

Playing Style & Strengths
Sakkari's peak was built on physicality. In 2021 she reached the semi-finals of both Roland-Garros and the US Open, the only player outside the top four to make two major semi-finals that season, and climbed to No. 3 in March 2022 without a Grand Slam final on her record. That combination, deep runs without a breakthrough, has defined how she is talked about.
The two titles she does hold came four years apart, in Marrakech in 2019 and Guadalajara in 2023, and both arrived at altitude or on hard courts where her ball-striking carries. She has been working with Tom Hill since 2025 on the rebuild back towards the top 20.
