Andreeva, the world No. 8 and a teenage prodigy, had long been earmarked for major honours. At 19 she became the youngest women's singles champion in Paris since Monica Seles in 1992.

With both players established inside the top 25 and Andreeva only at the start of her prime, a rematch on the sport's biggest stages feels a matter of time.
