Valentin Vacherot
Valentin Vacherot is the highest-ranked singles player Monaco has ever produced, and he got there by the most improbable route in recent tennis. In October 2025 he won the Shanghai Masters as world No. 204, the lowest-ranked champion in the history of the series, beating Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-final and his own cousin Arthur Rinderknech in the final.
Six months later he answered the question about whether one week could be repeated. At his home Masters in Monte-Carlo he came through as a wildcard and beat Lorenzo Musetti, Hubert Hurkacz and Alex de Minaur before losing to Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 6-4 in the semi-finals. He is ranked World No. 18, with a career high of No. 16, and is rebuilding after a foot injury cost him the whole grass season.

Playing Style & Strengths
At 6ft 4in Vacherot is a serve-and-forehand player, and the numbers from his breakthrough season show why that combination works: around 75% of first-serve points won and an 86.5% hold rate. The delivery is heavy and kicks high, the forehand is built to take control of a rally on the first or second ball, and unusually for a modern baseliner he is willing to follow it forward and finish at the net.
He came through the American college system at Texas A&M rather than a European academy, which is part of why the game travels less predictably than a ranking suggests. His two defining weeks came on a fast Shanghai hard court and on Monte-Carlo clay, and the Monte-Carlo run is the more revealing of the two: beating Musetti and de Minaur meant holding up in longer exchanges against a natural clay-courter and one of the best retrievers on tour.
Durability is the current question rather than technique. A left-foot stress fracture ended his Roland-Garros and removed the entire grass swing, and he has still never played a main draw at Wimbledon or the US Open, so two of the four majors remain untested at tour level.
