Alexei Popyrin

Popyrin is built around a very big serve and a forehand he hits with heavy spin and depth. At 1.96m he gets steep bounce on the first delivery and holds serve cheaply on quick courts, which is why his best results have come on hard courts rather than clay. The backhand is the side opponents target, and his level has historically been more variable than his ceiling suggests, but when the serve is landing he is a genuinely awkward opponent for anyone in the draw.

Popyrin is a hold-serve merchant, which makes total games and tie-break markets more interesting than the match line in a lot of his matches. He is at his best in best-of-five on hard courts, where the serve grinds opponents down over four sets, and least reliable on slow clay. A first-set loss means less with him than with most: he has come from a set down repeatedly, including against Dimitrov in New York. Odds are approximate at time of writing.
