Tournament Overview
The Japan Open is an ATP 500 event on outdoor hard courts at Ariake Tennis Forest Park in Tokyo, played in the same week as the ATP China Open in Beijing. It has a 32-player singles draw, and with Beijing it makes up the second week of the Asian swing before the Shanghai Masters.
Carlos Alcaraz is the defending champion. He beat Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 in the 2025 final, a year after Arthur Fils won the title and two years after Ben Shelton. Stefan Edberg holds the record with four titles, and Kei Nishikori, champion in 2012 and 2014, is the last Japanese man to win it. The tournament was not held in 2020 or 2021.
In 2026 Alcaraz is the top seed, ahead of Frances Tiafoe and Fritz, who met in the 2022 final. Nishikori plays Tiafoe in the first round on a wildcard, competing in Tokyo for the final time.
