Question 1

How many Masters 1000 tournaments are there?

Accepted Answer

There are nine ATP Masters 1000 events each season: Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome, Canada (Toronto/Montreal), Cincinnati, Shanghai and Paris.

Question 2

What's the difference between an ATP 500 and ATP 250?

Accepted Answer

ATP 500 events carry more ranking points, prize money and typically stronger fields than ATP 250s; there are around 13 ATP 500s and roughly 30-plus ATP 250s across the season, sitting below the nine Masters 1000s and the four Grand Slams in the tour hierarchy.

Question 3

Who has had the best 2026 season on the ATP Tour so far?

Accepted Answer

Jannik Sinner has been the standout performer, winning five of the season's first seven Masters 1000s (Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome), completing the Career Golden Masters at Rome by taking all nine Masters 1000 titles, and reclaiming the world No. 1 ranking.

Question 4

What is the Career Golden Masters?

Accepted Answer

It's winning all nine ATP Masters 1000 events at any point in a career. Only Novak Djokovic (completed 2018) and Jannik Sinner (completed 2026, at Rome) have achieved it.

Question 5

How does the ATP Rankings system work?

Accepted Answer

The ATP Rankings are a rolling 52-week system: players earn points based on results at Grand Slams, Masters 1000s, ATP 500s and ATP 250s, and points expire on a rolling basis a year after being earned, with the ranking recalculated weekly.

Question 6

Why did Carlos Alcaraz miss part of the 2026 ATP season?

Accepted Answer

Alcaraz hurt his right wrist at the Barcelona Open in April 2026. He won his opening match there but did not complete the tournament, and went on to miss the Madrid Open, the Italian Open, Roland-Garros and Wimbledon. He had reached the Monte Carlo final the week before Barcelona, losing to Jannik Sinner.
