Katerina Siniakova won the Japan Open in Osaka on Sunday, beating Ashlyn Krueger 6-1, 6-0 in 64 minutes. After trailing 2-1 in the first set, the Czech won the last 10 games of the match. It is her sixth singles title and her first since Nanchang in 2023, and she beat British No. 8 seed Katie Boulter in the semi-finals.
Ten Games in a Row
Siniakova, the world No. 1 in doubles, dropped one set all week, and that came in her first match, against the No. 2 seed Peyton Stearns, who retired in the third set. In the final she hit 16 winners to Krueger’s 10 and made 19 unforced errors to Krueger’s 34. “I don’t remember when I played so well,” she said afterwards.
