Francesca Jones
Francesca Jones has one of the most distinctive stories in British tennis. Born in Bradford in September 2000 with ectrodactyly ectodermal dysplasia cleft syndrome, she has one thumb and three fingers on each hand and seven toes in total, and was told as a teenager that professional tennis was unlikely to be open to her. She is ranked World No. 110, with a career high of World No. 65 reached in February 2026.
Roland-Garros 2026 delivered the result her career had been building towards. Coming through three rounds of qualifying, she beat Beatriz Haddad Maia 1-6, 7-6(4), 6-2 for her first Grand Slam main-draw win before losing in the second round to 27th seed Marie Bouzkova. Earlier in the season she beat Emma Navarro in Auckland and Venus Williams in Miami.

Playing Style & Strengths
Jones plays an aggressive baseline game built on a heavy topspin forehand, developed at the Sanchez-Casal academy in Barcelona where she moved at the age of nine. The serve is not the weapon: her 2026 numbers show a 67.6% first-serve percentage and around one ace per match, so matches are decided by her return game and her tolerance for long rallies rather than by free points.
That profile explains where she wins. She converts 22.1% of break points and holds up unusually well on pressure points, winning 49.2% of return-pressure points, and the bulk of her titles have come on clay where the extra time suits patient construction. Her breakthrough Grand Slam win came on the slow Paris clay from a set down, which is the shape of most of her best results.
The physical context matters to how she plays rather than as a footnote. Her condition affects balance and grip, and the game she has built around it prioritises court position, anticipation and rally length over raw power. Repeated surgeries and a 2024 wrist operation that cost most of a season are part of why the Grand Slam breakthrough arrived a decade into her career.

Jones Betting Tips & Predictions
Jones is a surface-specific proposition and the market does not always price her that way. Her win rate and her titles are concentrated on clay and slower hard courts, where her rally tolerance and return game do the work, and she has repeatedly outperformed her ranking at WTA 125 level on those surfaces. Back-to-back titles in Rome and Palermo in July 2026 came at that level.
Grass is the other side of it. A modest serve and a game built on extended rallies is the least suitable combination for a quick, low-bouncing court, and her grass results have been correspondingly thin.
