The Sabalenka Record
Aryna Sabalenka has won this tournament three times, in 2018, 2019 and 2024. Because the event was not held in between, those were three consecutive editions. Counting from her debut she won 20 matches in a row in Wuhan without losing one, a streak that only ended when Jessica Pegula beat her in the 2025 semi-finals.
It is the strongest course-and-distance record any active player holds at a WTA 1000 event.
The Rest of the Roll
Petra Kvitova is the only other multiple champion, winning the inaugural 2014 title and again in 2016. Venus Williams won in 2015 when Garbine Muguruza retired in the final, and Caroline Garcia came through a three-set final against Ashleigh Barty in 2017.
