Liudmila Samsonova
Liudmila Samsonova is a Russian right-hander, born in Olenegorsk on 11 November 1998. She represented Italy early in her career before switching back to Russia. In 2021 she clinched the Billie Jean King Cup for the Russian team by beating Belinda Bencic in the final.
She has won five WTA singles titles: Berlin in 2021, Washington, Cleveland and Tokyo in 2022, and ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2024. She reached a career-high World No. 12 on 27 February 2023 and played two WTA 1000 finals that year, in Montreal and Beijing. Her best Grand Slam result is the 2025 Wimbledon quarter-final.
Her 2026 season has been uneven. She had dropped to No. 70 by late July, then recovered with a quarter-final in Washington, where she beat Madison Keys, and a semi-final in Guadalajara, where she beat top seed Marta Kostyuk. She is World No. 43 on 1,234 points as of 19 October 2026.

Playing Style & Strengths
Samsonova plays a power game built around her serve. She stands 1.82m, is right-handed and hits a two-handed backhand. Coverage has long described her as a hard hitter, and in her 2022 Washington final win over Kaia Kanepi she served 10 aces. Two of her five titles came on grass, where a big first serve is worth most, and she reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2025. Her hard-court record is also strong: three titles in 2022 and two WTA 1000 finals in 2023.
Samsonova Betting Tips & Predictions
Grass is Samsonova’s strongest surface on paper: titles in Berlin (2021) and ‘s-Hertogenbosch (2024), plus a Berlin semi-final and a Wimbledon quarter-final in 2025. Her serve-led game suits faster courts, so give her extra credit there. Her 2026 form has been patchy, with a drop to No. 70 in the summer, so check recent results before backing her. Her record against Iga Świątek is poor: Świątek beat her in the 2023 Beijing final and the 2025 Wimbledon quarter-final.
