First played in 1899, the Cincinnati Open is the oldest tennis tournament in the United States still held in its original city. Well over a century of champions have come through the Lindner Family Tennis Center and its predecessors, and the modern roll of honour reads like a list of the best hard-court players of each era.

The Records
Roger Federer holds the record for most Cincinnati singles titles with seven, the most of any player in the tournament’s history on either tour. He won his first in 2005 and his last a decade later, a run of sustained dominance at a single Masters event that nobody has matched here.
The event was known as the Western & Southern Open for the years its title sponsor held naming rights, and reverted to the Cincinnati Open in 2023. Results from that period are the same tournament under a different name.
Who Defends in 2026
Iga Świątek defends her title on a surface that has become one of her strongest. Carlos Alcaraz does not: the men’s defending champion withdrew on 4 August with the wrist injury that has kept him out since April and that cost him Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, so there will be a new name on the men’s trophy.
