Jannik Sinner has won the 2026 Monte Carlo Masters, defeating Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(5), 6-3 in the final to claim his first clay-court Masters 1000 title and reclaim the world No 1 ranking. The Italian’s 21st consecutive Masters victory extends a streak matched only by Djokovic, Federer and Nadal, and crowns the most dramatic edition of the tournament in recent memory.

Sinner becomes the first player since Novak Djokovic in 2015 to win the first three Masters 1000 events of the season, following his triumphs at Indian Wells and Miami. He will start Monday as world No 1 for the 67th week, moving one clear of Alcaraz’s 66-week tally.

Final: Sinner 7-6(5), 6-3 Alcaraz

The final lived up to its billing as the biggest match of the clay season so far. Sinner and Alcaraz traded blows in a high-quality first set that went to a tiebreak, where the Italian held his nerve to edge it 7-5. The second set was more decisive: Sinner broke early and never looked back, closing out a 6-3 set to seal the title.

For Alcaraz, the defeat means he loses all 1,000 ranking points from his 2025 title defence, handing the No 1 ranking to Sinner heading into Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros. The Spaniard will need a strong run on the rest of the clay swing to reclaim top spot. See our Alcaraz vs Sinner H2H for the full rivalry record.
