Day 2 belonged to the qualifiers. Finland’s Otto Virtanen saved a match point to knock out fourth seed Ben Shelton 11-9 in the deciding-set tie-break, while Daria Snigur recovered from 0-4 down to see off No.8 seed Elina Svitolina in straight sets. Serena Williams, back in singles for the first time since 2022, edged a set off Maya Joint before losing in three. Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz both survived, but six men’s seeds are already out.
Wednesday hands us the pick of the fortnight so far. Defending champion Jannik Sinner opens on Centre, Novak Djokovic meets Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Roland-Garros champion Mirra Andreeva faces 2024 winner Barbora Krejčíková. Day 3 Predictions & Best Bets
Jannik Sinner v Nuno Borges
Sinner dropped a set to Miomir Kecmanović on Day 1 but looked increasingly comfortable as the match wore on. Borges is a capable operator with a clean backhand, yet he has never beaten a top-10 player on grass and has won just one main-draw match at Wimbledon. The world No.1 should have too much first-strike tennis here.
Best bet: Sinner to win in straight sets — approx 8/11 with Paddy Power.
Stefanos Tsitsipas v Novak Djokovic
Djokovic remains the man to beat on this court whenever he steps on it, and his return game is tailor-made to expose Tsitsipas’s second serve. The Greek can win a set on grass when his forehand fires, but he has never taken a set off Djokovic at a Slam in normal conditions. Expect the seven-time champion to control the baseline exchanges.
Best bet: Djokovic to win but Tsitsipas to take a set (over 3.5 sets) — approx 15/8 with Sky Bet.
Barbora Krejčíková v Mirra Andreeva
The tie of the day. Krejčíková lifted this title in 2024 but has barely played through an injury-hit season, while Andreeva arrives as the Roland-Garros champion and one of the form players on tour. On grass the gap in match sharpness should tell; Andreeva’s movement and depth make her the pick, though the champion’s variety could stretch it.
Best bet: Andreeva to win — approx 4/6 with Bet365.
