Valentin Vacherot won the Swiss Indoors Basel on Sunday, coming from a set down to beat the No. 8 seed Jiří Lehečka 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final. The player from Monaco started the week ranked No. 31 and beat three seeds on the way. It is the second title of his career, after the 2025 Shanghai Masters, and he has won both of the tour-level finals he has played.
Three Seeds and a Comeback
Vacherot was unseeded in Basel. After beating Mariano Navone, he knocked out the No. 3 seed Rafael Jódar in a deciding-set tie-break, beat Holger Rune in three sets and then the No. 6 seed Taylor Fritz 7-6(5), 6-3 in the semi-finals. In the final Lehečka took the first set 6-2, and Vacherot won 12 of the last 18 games.

A Year After Shanghai
Vacherot won the Shanghai Masters in October 2025 as a qualifier ranked No. 204, the lowest-ranked Masters 1000 champion in history. He reached a career-high of No. 14 on 5 October 2026, but the points from that title came off his ranking after this year’s Shanghai Masters, and he arrived in Basel at No. 31. Basel is his first title since Shanghai and his first at ATP 500 level. He is the first player from Monaco to win the event, which Roger Federer won ten times.
Lehečka Loses a Third Final of 2026
Lehečka beat Stan Wawrinka in the last match of the Swiss player’s career, then Daniel Altmaier, the wildcard Jérôme Kym and Jan-Lennard Struff, who had knocked out Novak Djokovic. It was his third final of 2026, after the Miami Open and the Japan Open in Tokyo, and he has now won two of the nine tour-level finals he has played. Vacherot leads their head-to-head 2-1.
Djokovic Next in Paris
Vacherot goes straight to the Paris Masters, where he plays the No. 10 seed Novak Djokovic in the first round. He beat Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 in the Shanghai semi-finals in 2025. Lehečka opens against Alex Michelsen, with the Vienna champion Carlos Alcaraz waiting in the second round.
