Arthur Fils has qualified for the ATP Finals for the first time. His place was confirmed on Wednesday 4 November, when Quentin Halys beat Frances Tiafoe in the second round of the Paris Masters, and that evening Fils beat the qualifier Tomáš Macháč 6-3, 7-6(4) in front of a home crowd. He joins Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Daniil Medvedev and Flavio Cobolli in the field for Turin, 15 to 22 November.
The First Frenchman Since Monfils
Fils is the first French player to qualify for the ATP Finals since Gaël Monfils in 2016. Monfils was honoured at a farewell ceremony in Paris this week. Fils is 22 and reached a career-high world No. 7 on 2 November, two months after breaking into the top 10 for the first time.
His 2026 Season
Fils did not start his season until February, when he was ranked No. 42. From there he won two titles, including his first Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, where he beat Tiafoe in the final. In Barcelona he saved two match points in the first round against Terence Atmane and went on to win the event. He reached at least the semi-finals at three Masters 1000 events, Miami, Madrid and Cincinnati, which only one other Frenchman had done in a season: Guy Forget in 1991.
| Event | Result |
|---|---|
| Doha (ATP 500) | Runner-up |
| Miami Open (Masters 1000) | Semi-finals |
| Barcelona (ATP 500) | Champion |
| Madrid Open (Masters 1000) | Semi-finals |
| Cincinnati Open (Masters 1000) | Champion |
Still Playing in Paris
Fils arrived in Paris after retiring injured in October with a back problem. As the No. 6 seed he had a first-round bye, and he looked sound against Macháč. He plays Taylor Fritz in the third round on Thursday 5 November, not before 19:30 UK time on Court Central, a match that also matters for Turin because Fritz is still chasing the last place.
The Race for the Last Places
Sinner is second in the Race to Turin but will not play, so the eight places go to the top nine minus Sinner. This is the live Race on 5 November:
| Pos | Player | Points | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Alexander Zverev | 9,350 | Qualified |
| 2 | Jannik Sinner | 7,950 | Out for the season |
| 3 | Carlos Alcaraz | 5,200 | Qualified |
| 4 | Ben Shelton | 4,620 | Qualified |
| 5 | Daniil Medvedev | 3,820 | Qualified |
| 6 | Flavio Cobolli | 3,680 | Qualified |
| 7 | Arthur Fils | 3,625 | Qualified |
| 8 | Frances Tiafoe | 3,390 | Out of Paris |
| 9 | Rafael Jódar | 3,234 | Out of Paris |
| 10 | Alex de Minaur | 3,170 | Out of contention |
| 11 | Taylor Fritz | 2,950 | In Paris |
| 12 | Novak Djokovic | 2,940 | Out of contention |
| 13 | Tommy Paul | 2,825 | In Paris |
Two places are still open. Frances Tiafoe and Rafael Jódar hold them, and both are out of Paris. Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul can still pass them, so Thursday decides a lot: if Paul or Fritz loses, Tiafoe qualifies, and if both lose, Jódar does too. Fritz plays Fils on Thursday evening.
Cobolli, who qualified on 3 November, is the other first-timer in the field. Full coverage is on our ATP Finals hub and the live Race to Turin.
