Flavio Cobolli Qualifies for the ATP Finals for the First Time

Flavio Cobolli has qualified for the ATP Finals for the first time. The 24-year-old Italian’s place was confirmed on Tuesday 3 November, when Casper Ruud beat Rafael Jódar 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the Paris Masters. He joins Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton and Daniil Medvedev in the field for Turin, 15 to 22 November, and three places are still open.

An Italian in Turin

Cobolli is the fourth active Italian man to qualify for the ATP Finals, after Jannik Sinner, Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Musetti. Sinner, the two-time defending champion, ended his season on 6 October with a right knee injury, and none of the players still chasing the last three places is Italian, so Cobolli will be the only home player in the singles field at the Inalpi Arena. Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori have qualified in doubles.

His 2026 Season

The season started badly. Cobolli won his first match of the year at the United Cup and then lost four in a row. From there he played the best tennis of his career. He reached his first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros, where Zverev beat him, and became the third man born in the 2000s to play in a major final, after Alcaraz and Sinner. He also won the ATP 500 title in Acapulco and beat both Zverev and Medvedev during the year.

Event Result
Acapulco (ATP 500) Champion
Munich (ATP 500) Runner-up
Roland Garros Runner-up
Wimbledon Quarter-finals
Cincinnati Open Semi-finals

The Fitness Question

Cobolli has not played since the Vienna Open, where he beat Grigor Dimitrov in the first round and then retired injured in his second-round match against Berrettini. He withdrew from the Paris Masters, where he was the No. 5 seed, and qualified without hitting a ball there because the players behind him could no longer catch him once Jódar lost. How he recovers before 15 November is the question going into his first ATP Finals.

The Race for the Last Three Places

Sinner is second in the Race to Turin but will not play, so the eight places go to the top nine minus Sinner. This is the live Race on 4 November:

Pos Player Points Status
1 Alexander Zverev 9,350 Qualified
2 Jannik Sinner 7,950 Out for the season
3 Carlos Alcaraz 5,110 Qualified
4 Ben Shelton 4,620 Qualified
5 Daniil Medvedev 3,820 Qualified
6 Flavio Cobolli 3,680 Qualified
7 Arthur Fils 3,535 In Paris
8 Frances Tiafoe 3,390 In Paris
9 Rafael Jódar 3,234 Out of Paris
10 Alex de Minaur 3,170 In Paris
11 Novak Djokovic 2,940 In Paris
12 Taylor Fritz 2,900 In Paris
13 Tommy Paul 2,775 In Paris

Jódar holds the last place on 3,234 points, but his Paris is over. De Minaur passes him with a second-round win over Tomás Martín Etcheverry on Wednesday 4 November, and Djokovic, Fritz and Paul can also still overtake him. The Paris Masters ends on 8 November and settles the field. Our Race to Turin page tracks the table.
